Ever since synthedit came along there are so many crappy vsti's out there made with it. I've made a few myself. I've found that anymore I just don't download plugins made with synthedit, because my hard drive would be full of them if I did.

I'm just wondering, though, has anyone found some SE plugins that aren't a waste of time? That actually stand on their own as decent plugins?

I do sometimes use the superwaveP8, Oberon, and Satyr, but they are slightly CPU hoggs. Anyone found anything else worth having around?

there's quite a few that kick ass, but you're right about the Synth end... theres not many worth using. but that's because most ppl out there think they can slap a couple oscillators and filters together, release it, and call it a new synth while in reality theres about 5,000 other crap synths with the exact same simple design.

there are exceptions tho... (e-phonic stuff, superwave and dirtbag are a few of them). the fact is most ppl using synthedit aren't very bright when it comes to synth design or dsp.. but theres a handful of people that are extremely clever.

on the effect end of things however...synthedit can be extremely useful and theres tons of plugins worth downloading. like oli larkin's stuff. SE is also ace for making quick midi or routing utility plugins.. which I've made several of for myself.

then you have the fact that most ppl that make SE plugins, even when not using a default or public skin, make the ugliest damn gui's in the world.

there's 3 quick ways you can guess what the quality of a SE plugin is going to be before you download it. What it's purpose is - What it looks like - and What the creators homepage is like.

regardless... I use SE alot, I'm even creating a synth ATM.. and there's no non-SE equivilent to it for the time being., so I and other JX3P owners and fans will love it ;] Naomi (imoan) on #buzz also makes some really good SE plugins that are worth checking out. http://www.majken.se/vst/

but if those 2 sticks are made out of misshapen formica and take up the storage space of 100 sticks made of oak, maple, beech, birch, chestnut, pine, etc.., I bet you wouldnt use them.

LOL

mute - your plug sounds nice but most presets use almost %50 cpu on my 1.6GHz P4 system (playing 1 note). Unfortunately my asio drivers crap out when exeeding about %55cpu which means I couldnt practicly use it Sad

Anyway - maybe I will be able to afford an upgrade next year...

make sure you have the latest version because i did alot of optimizing, but it can still reach up to 28-30% on my computer w/ all voices in use and depending on the patch (long release times=more overlapping voices =more cpu)... you might have an older version if you downloaded it before the current page @ http://www.plosive.net/vst/ was put up.

i have a athalon xp 1900 btw.

there are a few more tweaks i may try in the future, but for now its how it is ;] it's a beefy synth though.. .you gotta realize there's 12 oscillators at work, 2 per voice.. so at the very least there are 4 oscs in use at one time. ;]

btw.. i made another plugin recently... its a note triggered Pitchshifter amoung other things.. I gave it a buzz-style gui: Smile

http://www.plosive.net/vst/index.html#fitch

make sure you read all those release notes.. this isnt a plugin for the weary.

cpu use on this one is between 3-6% on my computer. i kept it as low as possible..and when u consider it's a pitchshifter, thats pretty damn low ;]
